Residents of Bradford Woods are advised that between August 3rd and August 17th, Allegheny County Health Department will be dropping rabies vaccination baits throughout Allegheny County, including Bradford Woods. Vaccine baits are dropped annually to reduce the risk of humans and animals contracting rabies. Baits are contained in plastic sachet (looks like ketchup packets) coated in fish meal or placed in fish meal blocks. Baits are not harmful to pets, although if consumed they may cause vomiting and diarrhea. Please avoid contact with baits and wear protective latex gloves to move the baits if necessary. Only move baits if they are found where children and pets play. Wash your hands after contact with bait. Do not risk getting bitten if taking a bait away from a pet. If your pet consumes a bait, avoid your pets' saliva for 24 hours and wash skin or wounds that may haven been licked. When walking pets, please keep them leashed. Visit http://www.achd.net/raccoon/ for more information about the project. If there are any questions about the baits or vaccine, or concern with accidental contact, call 1-(800)-722-6725. If there are questions about the baiting process, please call (412)-350-4046.
